Congratulations to all of our poets 2006 poets!

The entries were exquisite, making the judges' decisions quite difficult. In addition to the winning entries, all of the poems entered will be published on our site. You'll find a listing of the poems with links to each of them below.

The theme of our contest is "Putting Our Heads Together."
Since it's a poetry contest, it seems appropriate that we have a poem specifically on that theme...

Putting Our Heads Together
by Teri Robert

It’s time…

“We hold these truths to be self-evident,
that all men are created equal…”
Oh, really? Tell me that again,
when everyone feels and understands our pain, equally.

“I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated
States, and parts of States, are, and henceforward shall be free…”
Where is our Abraham Lincoln. our protector,
to come and emancipate us from the slavery of our pain, nausea, vomiting, and more?

“With malice toward none,
with charity for all…”
Ahhhh, yes. Tell that to
my pounding head and those who doubt that my disease is real.

When our heads feel as if they’re in pieces, and famous words seem to taunt us,
It’s time to add our own words in our own voices, empowered voices.
It’s time…
for putting our heads together.
