this intrusion
upon our innocence
breaking down
all peace we'd found

disrespectful
of any honour
we now must concede
our every need

as with any assault
upon our being
we find hope in denial
this our only survival

we fail ourselves
and everyone else
this intrusion
shakes our very foundation

we seek solace
however we can
trying hopelessly
to retain our identity
