Medical terminology can be extremely confusing. Rather than avoiding it, it's beneficial to us to learn the terms we're likely to hear from our doctors.

Prospective Study: A study in which the subjects are identified, then followed forward over a period of time.

This term is most often seen in discussions of clinical trials.

Example: The Physician's Health Study was a prospective study.
