Wednesday
by Juliette Guarino
Arise and think “Today’s the day” I’m feeling great No pain today
Sit on the train My temples swell Delude myself – “Just the sound of the bell”
Step on the platform Body shakes Feeling unsteady Sockets ache
Amble downstairs Seeing double Still in denial “What’s the trouble?”
Silence, darkness You can wait Wednesday and I We have a date
Walk down the sidewalk Tingling feeling Feet drag on the ground My head’s now reeling
Stop in my tracks Tripped up, bumbling Wednesday’s dream Like the asphalt, crumbling
Close my eyes The thoughts are swirling Omnipotent, nonexistent simultaneously Hurling –
Me to the ground Head in hands Thursday will release me
