BEAR TRAP. Living with Migraines
by Angela A. Tahara

Free today; sun shines on eyes not hidden,
Cool breeze blows gently through hair so soft,
Energy inside my body radiates unbidden,
Today rejoices, no pain this day to hold me aloft.

For thirty years this lesson I know,
It comes today, tomorrow, the next day, no less,
Waiting for a bear-trap to clamp on my head with such a blow,
Wishes of death cross my mind more than I confess.

Speech will be twisted, blurred and whelp.
Pain so sharp and cutting I cannot withstand it,
Drugs I take causes mean shadows with little help.
So little to aid me in this cruel long gamut.

A solitary confinement no other person can gauge.
No cause, no cure, no reason, no relief.
Inside I scream to God for all of my rage,
Send down some help or make it brief.

I question the WHY; is it as bad luck, or karma, or fate?
Philosophising my lesson to be learned of this journey,
Again I am immobilized at an agonizing rate,
There is nothing learned or noble about this useless tourney.

But, today there is no pain and the sun shines brighter for me than for you,
I relax into life’s rhythm and flow as nature calls out for me to return.
I’ve learned to live in the happy moments, and these joyful snapshots are few.
Today I am free from pain; it may be tomorrow when I will crash and burn.

Light and music was once my delightful muse,
Waiting for the next bear-trap to clamp on head.
What others take for granted, I always choose to lose.
Wishes of death cross my mind more than less.
